Membership is a great way of helping Friends of the Pound Tweed Inc as the more members we have, the bigger voice we have in the community. Becoming a member allows you to volunteer at the Pound, help with our fundraising, participate in events as well as attending our monthly meetings and voting. It's easy to join, simply visit our membership page.
Foster carers are the lifeline of our organisation, without these wonderful people we could not rescue the number of animals we do, yet we always need more people to come forward and offer to foster an orphan until a permanent home can be found. Foster caring is a really rewarding thing to do and it doesn’t take much time or effort. Firstly, you must be a financial member of Friends of the Pound and then all you need to provide is a loving home, secure fencing and a few hours of interaction with your foster animal each day.
We can provide you with food and bedding. We pay for all medical costs associated with the foster animal and we also provide you with support at any time you need, about any questions you may have. The most rewarding part of the whole experience has to be the satisfaction you feel when your foster animal finds a new, permanent loving home. Knowing that you have played a big role in getting them that home is a great feeling and one that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Volunteering is a valuable way to help out Friends of the Pound as we are always in need of volunteers to aid with a variety of tasks.
Volunteering at the Pound
Friends of the Pound is currently in consultation with the Tweed Shire Council re future procedures/venue/dates for the induction of new pound volunteers. This is a prerequisite/condition of being permitted to becoming a pound volunteer.
Friends of the Pound are always in need of people interested in donating their special knowledge and skills for our committee and for everyday duties. People with skills such as accounting and fundraising are always needed as our organisation expands. Please email Sonia to find out further information.
Become a Friends of the Pound Rehoming Centre Attendant
We have a Rehoming Centre at 100% PETS in the Harvey Norman Centre, Greenway Drive, Tweed Heads South. Volunteers work in the centre, in shifts, every day the store is open. They look after the cats and kittens brought in for sale, answer telephones and take enquiries from the public. As volunteers become familiar with the processes they can assist with record keeping, deal with the mail, sell animals and assist foster carers. If you have some time to spare and enjoy dealing with animals and the public email our Rehoming Centre to offer your services. You will be given training before being left to your own resources.
We are currently in need of people who are interested in transporting our animals to foster carers and vets and other places they may need to go. If you would like to volunteer to drive our animals to their required destinations, please email Sonia or phone our Rehoming Centre on 07 55248590.
Fundraising is one of the key ways in which Friends of the Pound gets the money to rescue abandoned animals from the Tweed Shire Pound. We have various fundraising initiatives being undertaken throughout the year with volunteers always being needed to help us out with such projects. So if you could spare a day or even a couple of hours to promote our wonderful cause and raise much-needed funds then let us know. Alternatively if you have suggestions on fundraising ideas or suggestions on events we can attend to promote our cause then please email Sonia.

Rehoming Centre Campaign
In the past Friends of the Pound have talked about having a Rehoming Centre - purchasing land or an existing kennel/cattery and having somewhere for the animals that were being euthanased at the pound to go. Things have changed for the better in the past decade and much of this is because of the hard work of many members of Friends of the Pound. We have had meetings recently to assess our needs and the way we are operating and have come up with a model which we believe works very well in our current situation. This model still needs to go before a general meeting and will be published here if and when approved.
To donate to our rehoming centre fund simply visit our Donations page.
Bequests can include real estate, shares, life insurance policies or tangible assets such as jewellery, artwork, motor vehicles, furniture etc. You can also choose to make a conditional bequest, for example, if you are concerned about the welfare of your pet you can make it a condition of your bequest that FOP will find a suitable home for your pet and ensure that they receive any necessary veterinary treatment up to the amount of the bequest, minus costs incurred by FOP in the process of re-homing your pet.
