Friends of the Pound (Tweed) Inc was founded on the 8th May 2000, after a public meeting held at Tweed Heads in March 2000. The meeting produced a strong response showing the public’s concern for our four legged friends.

Our members are now providing a much needed source of labour to assist in answering the phone and handling enquiries at the pound, as well as exercising and caring for the animals.

Our primary purposes are to rehouse the animals to save them from destruction and improve conditions at the pound.

We would also like to encourage responsible pet ownership such as de-sexing and micro-chipping.

Friends of the Pound (Tweed) Inc is a non-profit charitable organisation, dependant on donations and the fund raising efforts of our volunteers. Donations are deeply appreciated and will enable the continued care of the animals.

Friends of the Pound (Tweed) Inc. enjoys Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status with the Australian Taxation Office and, therefore, people donating to our organisation are able to claim income tax deductions on their gifts.

Full support from local media has enabled us to find new homes for numerous dogs and cats which would otherwise be euthanased and be lost to us all.
