Under Tweed Shire Council regulations all dogs and puppies have to be vet checked to assess whether they are suitable for sale. Vet checks are scheduled for every Thursday. We only have a short time to find homes for those dogs and puppies assessed suitable for sale. Please register your interest in a dog or puppy by contacting the pound on 02 6676 6060. All dogs and cats being sold to NSW residents have to be lifetime registered at the time of sale from the pound. Click for Pound location map.

Lost Dogs in the Pound

All dogs that go to the pound as lost dogs are now photographed and put on the Tweed Shire Council Website. People can also send in photos and details of their lost pets. You can phone the pound on 02 6676 6060.

Dogs in Foster Care

The following dogs are not in the pound but are with Friends of the Pound foster carers. Some have been rescued as their short time in the pound ran out and they were due to be destroyed. They are all still in need of a loving home.

The following prices are heavily subsidised by Friends of the Pound as we have to pay for desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, vet-checks, and often other medical expenses are needed. Sometimes the Adoption fee only pays a small part of the animals vet bill.

We are a not for profit organisation and our vet bills are huge. If you are in a position to pay more for a foster dog we welcome any further donations. All monies received helps us to rescue more animals.

If the dog is to reside in NSW there is an additional cost of $40 being the NSW Lifetime Registration Fee.

If animals are to reside outside of NSW, please check registration requirements with your local council.

	With Foster Carer - $350 "Max" - Labrador - Desexed Male Max is about 20 months old. He is house trained but lives outside during the day and sleeps in the laundry at night and he waits to toilet, loves children, our backyard grass and gardens are intact so he is not a digging holes type of lad, or an escapee. He doesn’t chew any of the soft toys or shoes but loves empty icecream buckets as I often freeze a treat in water and leave it for him to play with along with a kong treat, he likes a frozen bone too. We have fed him on the Labrador dried food for his weight, coat and bones to ensure he is slim and healthy. Max cannot resist water so the beach and any type of lake, pool etc means he will dive straight in. Max also cannot resist chasing a bird, duck or seagull. Walking in the morning for 30 minutes (4.5kms) and in the afternoon social with other dogs 30-45 minutes on work days. 3 days a week he gets a couple of hours at a local Beach or somewhere where he can stretch his legs and bolt around. Private Rehoming - Other Dogs Needing a Home

The following dogs are not from the pound. Their owners are no longer able to care for them and have asked Friends of the Pound to place a notice on this website. Friends of the Pound take no responsibility for these dogs. Please contact their owners directly. All dogs in NSW must be microchipped and lifetime registered before being passed on to a new owner.

Jess - 10 month old desexed, microchipped, vaccinated female Mastiff x Boxer is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. She is a little timid so would suit a home without young children. Not a wanderer - stays close to home.

"Mali" - Staffy x Kelpie - Desexed Female

Mali is a 9 year old Staffy x Kelpie who is used to being with a large family of kids. She has always lived on a property and enjoys lots of company. Unfortunately her family circumstances have changed and she is looking for a new family to love. She enjoys playing with other dogs and also swimming.

"Cushla" – Golden Retriever x Wolfhound - Desexed Female

Cushla is a loving, affectionate two and a half year old dog who is well behaved and very intelligent. Whilst she loves to retrieve a ball and is very athletic, she also has the typical hound qualities of loving to chill out with her owners and laze around. She gets on well with people and other dogs. Our changing family situation (moving and a baby) requires us to find a home that can better give her what she needs.
