Dog Tails

Hi .... from "Kallie"

Hello to all at Friends of the Pound!

Just wanted to send you some photos of our gorgeous new family member called "Kallie". Kallie has settled in really well, she has started to put on some weight in the last 3 weeks and you can no longer see her ribs! Kallie loves cuddles and snuggling up.

She loves playing soccer with the kids (I have 4 boys 16, 5, 3 and 2 years of age) and they just adore her and she is very protective of them as well. Kallie is a very much loved member of our family and her temperament is just perfect, she is a really friendly dog and loves going for long walks every night with her new family.

She has a new kennel that she loves to sleep in it at night and during the day Kallie loves to snooze on the futon lounge out the back.

That's about it for now, keep up the great work that you all do at the shelter! Thanks again for our beautiful girl.

Brunz said, "I'm not a dog"

Hey Suzie and Dave, hope all is well with you. This is a photo of our mobile home @ Murwillumbah showground before we hit the road. Now we have landed in Emerald and the kids are in school, Pete has a great job and we are very happy. Hope to be in Emerald a year before heading over to WA. Brunz said, "I'm not a dog" he has his own leather lounge chair, he now watches TV.!!! And he loves staying inside with Oprah and Dr Phill and with the air conditioner on cool, very cute and extremely spoilt. Bit worried he is losing his courage after being bailed up by a 6 month old pup, anyway, might put his black mean stud collar back on. Thanks again for our wonderful experience while we were on the Tweed Coast. We talk to people all the time about the joy and happiness that flows through you when you help out a homeless or injured dog. At first I thought it would be hard for me, hubby and my children to foster care. Getting attached and not wanting to let go was a big consideration, you know, protecting us from
upset of losing a furry loved one. BUT, just setting our minds on helping, loving, feeding, bathing and preparing them for a new home is a grand experience. The day you rang and wanted to know if it was possible for us to look after nine pups that had been dumped in a box on the side of the road was one of the best decisions we made while fostering. Do you know, my children have grown with love and respect for animals like not many other children get to experience. They not only learnt all the caring aspects of 3 week old pups, they now know 9 happy healthy little puppies going to loving new owners is far greater than 9 cute little puppies being put down due to lack of care and assistance.

Even when it comes to some older dogs we have cared for, it is amazing to see how our family has all the love to give these guys while they get back on all fours and find new owners that love the same. My children are great at this wonderful skill they have learnt and suprise suprise, so are myself and my hubby.

Now we hope to bring with us on our travels, the skills to maybe teach others in these remote towns to rehome and foster. At firsts it seems like a losing battle, but once you get talking, its amazing to see the amount of people who do want to get involved.

Thank you Suzie, Dave and many other special people who are involved. You all put in such a great effort with amazing love, understanding and patience. I hope more people soon jump on the band wagon for foster caring and experience a suprising new skill of caring, loving and new beginnings.

Cheers! Take care! Alicia, Peter, the Boys and Brunzzzie. xxxx.

Moumoune has happily joined our family

Just a little feedback from a young girl who once attended the pound in December 2007. Our Border x Shepherd now called Moumoune has happily joined our family. She loves her cuddles, run and swim down at the beach, and is enjoying life. Here are before and after pictures.

Kind regards,

Myriam

Megsey is a big part of our family

Hi my name is Michelle from Goondiwindi in QLD. I adopted one of your orphans in April 2006, she is meant to be a Red Cattle Staffy cross, but I am not to sure what she is.

Megsey is a big part of our family, she rules our lives in which we love. As it is now she is sitting beside me whinging to go and do something. I work at a veterinary hospital she comes to work with me on the weekends and helps me walk and feed all the animals. She loves swimming and gets me up at six in the morning to go for a walk.

I have a nephew and niece who just loves her as well. I look on your website all the time as I will be after a play mate for Megsey one day.

Keep up the good work.

Buddha has the most gentle and sweetest nature

(Sheba)

Dear Friends of the Pound

This is Sheba, a Labrador x who was adopted a long, long time ago from you (approx 1991! When I was only 5 years old). Sheba was the most beautiful and obedient dog who went with me everywhere and who I grew up with. She was more like a sister to me than a family pet. Sheba passed away in 2004 (when I was 18) after a long and happy life filled with many adventures.

I was extremely sad when Sheba passed away, but she was very old and I know she had the best life a dog could have.

In 2006 I decided I would adopt another dog, as I missed having one around, so in July of that year I visited the pound and fell in love immediately with a black and white Border Collie x Kelpie puppy, approx 7 weeks old. I adopted him straight away and named him Buddha.

(Buddha)

Buddha has settled in very well at his new home, he has the most gentle and sweetest nature. He absolutely LOVES my two cats and everybody he meets. He is very spoiled and spends endless amounts of times swimming at the creek.

Thank you Friends of the Pound for giving me two of the most wonderful dogs I could have ever asked for.

It Was Meant To Be

A couple of years ago we bought Elmo, who had been in foster care with Barbara.
We just want you to know that Elmo (Mo, or Momo as he is also known) is a very healthy, happy, over indulged and spoilt dog who brings us so much happiness every day. He loves to dress up for the holiday seasons from bunny ears at Easter to Santa hat for Christmas much to the embarrassment of the men in the house.

I often think of the series of coincidences which brought me to meet Barbara and Elmo at my local corner shop that day and truly believe it was meant to be. Everything just fell into place.

Thank you Friends of the Pound and thank you Barbara.

Kind Regards and Merry Christmas,

Ruth

All is Good

Hi,

Hope all is going well and that everyone is happy and healthy.

Have attached a couple of photos of Buddy. All is good – he is looking a bit older but happy. Still likes to dig…..but hasn’t escaped again!

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Our little dog from Friends of the Pound

Dear Friends of the Pound.

Just to let you know last Monday we gave one of your little pups a home (brown and white Collie cross)

He is the most intelligent dog we have ever had, at 10 weeks of age, he comes on command sits, stays, waits for his food (which only took a day-amazing for a pup) and as he sleeps in our kitchen of an evening he to date sleeps all night without making a mess.

Our family are so glad that he is with us, and my German Shepherd (10 months old) loves him.

Thank you for doing such a great job.

Simone

Polar - "she hated the world"

I adopted Polar from you on January 10, 2004. A poor little 9 month old girl (Border Collie x Blue Cattle) who had been somebodys victim. A sucker for a sad story, I took her home and showered her with love.

She had been so badly treated, she hated the world, in particular...men. She had had her face and rump kicked in by her previous owner. We had an extreme problem, she bit. I made phone call after phone call and the advise was all the same...put her down. I gave her a month of my time, love and encouragement, but as much as she had settled into our home, it was obvious that she disliked my eldest son and any man that came near our house. Had it not been for a storm, I was on my way to surrender her in February.

Friends of the Pound were superb (thanks Susie), we could take her back and you would try a different family with her, a farm perhaps, but my point was that we had made the decision to adopt her and I would do all things possible to break her of her one dreadful quality.

I made a last ditch effort phone call to the Canine College, an obedience school, and spoke to Les, the owner. He agreed to meet with us, take a look at Polar and give us an honest opinion. Polar tried to attack everything in sight, overwhelmed and stressed by the situation. Les showed us how to 'correct' her and then divert her and after 20 minutes with her, she was already showing change. He told us that she would be hard work and that there was still the possibility that we would not be successful with her, but if we were prepared to put in our time and love, then he would try to help us.

And so it was. Polar started obedience classes at the end of February and we worked her hard. She is a highly intelligent little girl who has come a long way. She is now in the Advanced Class, passing her Basic Training with flying colors. She loves sniffer tracking work and Agility. She loves flying around the agility course, climbing the A-frame, darting through the tunnels and leaping over the hurdles. Two weeks ago, she won the Runner-Up award in this category.

She is making break through after break through. We still have some small problems with strange men coming to the front door, but after a brief 'introduction' she calms. She loves my both of my sons and drapes herself adoringly all over them.

I have a backyard that looks like a rally car track and flyscreen doors that would only protect us from Eagles as testimony to the trials and tribulations we have had to go through with her. We even had a bout of Depression she went through, that warranted Valium from the vet, a result of the fact that her breed is highly strung and she endured a large amount of change in her life in a short period. However, 8 months on, I have a wonderful little girl, who is trained to a high standard, who lies endlessly at my feet, would protect me and my family to the death and spends her total day wagging her whole body, not just the tail, while chasing lorikeets from the garden and shadows from the sky. Polar and I end the day together. Her bed at the end of mine lays cold, while she snuggles up round my legs and we drift off to sleep together.

I write to you to thank you and let you know of one of your success stories. Here stands as a warning that adopting a dog isn't all about taking them home and expecting them to be trained and without problem. All of these dogs are there for a reason, but with patience, love and responsible ownership, they remain the most loving, loyal and grateful dogs of all.

Vicki Wisely, Polar's Mum.

Bear and Indy - "Find a new home together"

Bear and Indy going off to their new home together. Larissa the girl who has taken them had her father along to help.

All is going well.

Jack - "An absolute delight"
He (now called Jack) is doing really well, he's a really good playmate for Fynn our Aussie Terrier and they're having a ball !!!! Although life is not quite as quiet now. Jack is an absolute delight to have around and seems to have taken to all the family and makes a big fuss of everyone when we get home. He loves going on walks and does really well on a lead and loves driving in the front of the Jeep with Bruce (my husband). He sleeps on his own bed in our bedroom and occasionally dives on the bed for big cuddles & lots of attention. He must of had some training previously because he is pretty obedient and only wants to please.

I will make an appointment with the RSPCA today and then organise to get him de-sexed.

I'll keep in touch and let you know how he's going.

Keep up the good work you guys do a wonderful job!!!!!!!

Kind regards, Liz

Stampy - "A loving new home"

We adopted Stampy on Friday and he is going really well. Our son loves him to death and as Stampy does he. He has really settled in well, loves the car and going for walks. Just a note to let you know how he is.

Thank you.

Denise

p.s. will send you a photo down the track

Note
Stampy is only 5 months old, and had already encountered people to be scared of. He is a happy and friendly young boy once he knows you won't harm him. He loves playing with other dogs. Reason for surrender to the pound - "Not needed any more " !!! - at 5 months old !

Frasier - "Very Happy"

My family adopted our "Frasier" on Saturday the 9/8/03. We are elated with our choice of extending our family and now "Frasier" is not only making us very happy but I'm happy to say we are making his life pretty enjoyable too. He not only makes himself at home he welcomes all of our friends and family into the house like he has been on the "block" for years. Frasier sleeps with my husband and I,joyously only goes to lou before we go to bed and when we get up at 5.00am.(better than children I hasten to say.)

Anyway I could go on for probably 2-3 pages telling you how thrilled we are with Frasier but I shall end with thanking you guys so much for having this avenue for prospective animal owners available.

Frasier says thanks as well.

Yours greatfully
Hoffman family

Foxy - "A reunion that brought tears to our eyes"

We recently had a very old Chihuahua x in the pound who could hardly walk. About 10 days went past and no one came to collect her. We thought we would try circulating her photo to try and reach her owner as that was the only way she would be leaving the pound alive. Susie dropped this photo of her into the letterbox of Leanne Clark who owns Aussie Pooch Mobile, Terranora, (who was also fostering Bandit at the time).

When Leanne arrived home she recognised her as she washes her. Her name is Foxy and she belongs to Bob Boike who is deaf/mute. By the time Susie had arrived home Foxy was also safely home. Leanne had been in touch with Narelle, who contacted the council and had promptly delivered little Foxy into the arms of a very appreciative Bob.

This demonstrates a wonderful team effort by FOP members. A photo and article about this story also went in the Daily News.

This very touching fax was received from Bob:

I am happy with Foxy and she still asleep with me at kitchen room. She is 16 years old, good time, she had clever about me deaf, she can hear (Knock at door) Lets me know and she help me.
Thankyou. Bob Boike
