Pound Beds

Dream of new Pound beds a reality thanks to Tweed Residents’ generosity

Late last year Friends of the Pound made an appeal to the public for funds to supply new beds for the dogs at the Tweed Shire Pound. We were overwhelmed by the response and before Christmas Friends of the Pound volunteer, Noel, had a busy time assembling all the new beds.

It took the strength of two volunteers to lug away each of the old steel and wooden beds. Volunteer Pam Price said ‘they were so heavy that we could barely lift them out to clean the pens’.  The new beds are made of tubular aluminium and are light and strong. The dogs just love them. They often chose to lie on the concrete floors, but now make straight for the beds.

One donor who preferred to remain anonymous started things off with a cheque for $2,000. With a further donation of $1000 from a Murwillumbah woman and many smaller donations we were able to buy new beds for every single pen not just the ‘for sale’ section as originally anticipated. Every dollar donated went directly for the dog beds.

Friends of the Pound volunteers and the Tweed Pound keepers were overwhelmed with the generosity of the public.
