Desexing program - June to December
January 16th 2012
During the last 6 months of last year, Friends of the Pound helped community members desex 14 cats and 7 dogs. This has reduced the number of unwanted kittens and puppies and helped to solve some anti social behavioural problems.
To qualify for assistance the animal owner must live in the Tweed Shire, have a current pension card or be able to demonstrate need caused by low income. Animal owners need to contribute towards the cost of desexing but their contribution ($60 for cats and $100 under 15 kg, $115 if over 15 kg) is considerably less than the amount the Vets would charge.
The Good Guys, Tweed Heads South have sponsored this program for the last 4 years. Their contribution over the past 6 months has been $1901.52. Our vet bills for use of desexing certificates have been $2539. The animal owners’ contribution was $1540. The program has come out $902 in front but the vets weren’t doing much subsidised desexing for the first 3 months! This extra money will go towards the ongoing desexing program.
Unfortunately, ‘The Good Guys’ are ending their sponsorship at the end of this financial year. If our program is to continue, and hopefully be extended, we need to find a new sponsor or sponsors. If you can help please contact our President, Sonia, on 0439 766243 or email Sonia. We will have advertising space for another major sponsor available.
